Risk classification

Risk classification reduces multiple sensor readings to a single ordered state - such as SAFE, MODERATE or CRITICAL - that expresses how dangerous the current situation is.

Why it matters

Eleven readings presented as eleven dials is a worse interface than one, not a better one. A supervisor under time pressure cannot integrate eleven numbers, and asking them to is how a system with more information produces slower decisions.

How it works

Each channel is classified, and the channel states are combined into an overall state - typically taking the most severe, sometimes weighting by channel or by corroboration between channels.

Example

One channel at CRITICAL puts the node at CRITICAL regardless of the other eight being normal.

The fused state drives the node display and the dashboard's headline state, with per-channel detail one click away.
